New Medical Complex Expands Moore County’s Healthcare Footprint

As Moore County’s largest private industry sector, healthcare is hugely important to the local economy, employing over 25% of our workforce. Residents are fortunate to have convenient access to an impressive and extensive variety of innovative, advanced care options.

Our nationally-acclaimed regional healthcare system, FirstHealth of the Carolinas, has been highlighted often on our Moore Alive website because of the numerous accolades it continually receives.  However, two additional and equally important premier facilities in our community are Pinehurst Surgical Clinic and Pinehurst Medical Clinic.  Each has a long history in Moore County, and now they have come together to partner on a major expansion.

Pinehurst Surgical Clinic is excited to be collaborating with the Pinehurst Medical Clinic in creating a state-of-the-art healthcare complex, which will be located in the Morganton Park North development at Morganton and Brucewood Roads in Southern Pines.

Since 1946, Pinehurst Surgical Clinic has been providing multi-specialty surgical services to Moore County.  They have since expanded their services to the surrounding counties of Hoke, Lee, Montgomery, Richmond, and Scotland to provide specialty services in a wide variety of medical fields with a board-certified physician staff of 42, 15 mid-level providers, and a professional staff of over 250.

Pinehurst Medical Clinic has been serving patients for over 65 years.  Over 100 providers offer a diverse range of primary and specialty care services through 17 locations in Moore, Lee, and Cumberland Counties.

The new expanded medical complex will be on 10.5 acres and will combine innovation and excellence, offering the latest technology in 3D imaging to better provide preventive healthcare and affordable outpatient procedures.

“The physicians of Pinehurst Surgical Clinic are very pleased to be collaborating with Pinehurst Medical Clinic and the town of Southern Pines on this important project. We envision a state-of-the-art medical complex which will allow convenient access to a number of specialties as well as imaging and laboratory studies,” said Dr. Russell Stokes, Plastic Surgeon and Medical Director at Pinehurst Surgical Clinic.

The new facility’s building plans call for an Urgent Care Center that will provide immediate care for all specialties.  It will also expand the menu of preventive healthcare services to align and support FirstHealth of the Carolina’s Cancer Services and network.

Several thousand square feet of medical office space will be available for local physicians to utilize and provide their patients with easy access and a convenient new location.

With 34.6 licensed physicians per 10,000 residents, compared to North Carolina at 24 (2018 estimate, UNC Sheps Center), Moore County is truly a healthcare hub for the region.  The new complex will be a tremendous addition to the wide range of healthcare choices available here.
