Moore County is a regional retail hub; local stores and shops attract residents, tourists and shoppers from the surrounding area. Retail Trade is our third largest industry sector, with retail sales totaling over $171 million in fiscal year 2021.

Southern Pines
Southern Pines’ vibrant downtown includes picturesque boutique shops and a variety of one-of-a-kind restaurants that exude small town charm with a cosmopolitan vibe. You’ll find locals and tourists alike shopping in unique clothing stores, bookstores, jewelry shops and gift shops. Frequent gathering spots downtown include local breweries, the wine shop and high-quality restaurants. In addition, Southern Pines has a thriving commercial corridor that will soon include a new shopping complex opening in 2024 with Target, Golf Galaxy, Home Goods and other retailers.

Pinehurst
The Village of Pinehurst’s historic downtown offers a unique array of boutique stores, restaurants and bars. Here you can find jewelry, upscale clothing, a baby store, home furnishings, gift shops, golf memorabilia and kitchenware in a gorgeous and charming small town. You can even find an old steam plant transformed into the Pinehurst Brewery and a wine shop.

Aberdeen
The Town of Aberdeen has an active downtown and has launched several beautification projects to enhance the overall enjoyment of the downtown shopping district. Already home to a number of galleries, boutiques and cafes, several new shops and restaurants have opened, and multiple storefronts have been revitalized. Aberdeen is also a commercial hub for southern Moore County and includes big box retailers such as Walmart, TJ Maxx and Best Buy.

Other Retail
Moore County has long been a place for “foodies,” with its eclectic selection of dining options ranging from popular fast food to indulgent culinary experiences and even a food truck park and beer garden. Moore County also boasts four craft breweries, a cider house, wine bars and a new whiskey distillery opening in 2023. Locals and visitors alike seem to have a palate for Moore County’s handcrafted ales and lagers, proving that you don’t have to live in a big city to enjoy this thriving niche industry!
