Manufacturing is Moore County’s sixth largest industry sector, with over 80 manufacturers employing over 1,700 workers. In 2024, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for this sector was over $253.9 million, or 4.4% of Moore County’s total GDP of $5.7 billion (Bureau of Economic Analysis). You’ll find a wide variety of manufacturers producing familiar and unique products in Moore County.
Moore County is also a part of Foreign Trade Zone #93 which offers several economic advantages, including savings on taxes, labor & shipping costs, for companies involved in international trade.

Our advanced manufacturing businesses use state-of-the-art technology to design and construct their products. Some of our larger manufacturers and their products include:

Other products made by local manufacturers include plastic wrapping, whole aircraft parachute systems, furniture, apparel, pallets, equipment, tactical gear and custom kiosks, to name a few.

Biomass Development
In partnership with Ecostrat and the BDO Zone Initiative, Moore County is the first community in North Carolina to receive a BDO (Bioeconomy Development Opportunity) Zone Rating, putting Moore County at the forefront of NC’s growing bioeconomy.
Moore County received a BDO Zone ‘A’ Rating for 925,000 bone dry tons per year of low-risk woody biomass and spans a 75-mile drive radius from its central point in Robbins, NC. The ‘A’ rating denotes high prospective viability of Feedstock Supply and Infrastructure and low expectations of default risk in the Zone.
Coupled with a well-positioned anchor site — the Iron Horse Industrial Park, a 73-acre heavy-industrial parcel on NC 211 East in Aberdeen just 3.3 miles from US-1, served by all utilities and short-line rail service, and integrated with regional forestry operations and mill networks, Moore County is a prime location for biobased industrial development.

Workforce & Transportation
Moore County has an adaptable labor force of over 40,000 strong that is boosted by drawing workers from surrounding counties. According to the US Census OnTheMap, almost 21,150 nonresidents commuted to private-sector primary jobs in Moore County’s communities in 2023. Read more about local workforce statistics.
