Moore County’s proximity to Fort Bragg and other nearby military installations, combined with our active duty and veteran population, contributes to our thriving defense and military support industry. According to the NC Military Business Center, Moore County businesses secured more than $19.8 million in Department of Defense prime contracts in 2021.

Fort Bragg
Nearby Fort Bragg, soon to be renamed Fort Liberty, is the world’s largest U.S. military base by population and has an incredible influence on our defense industry. The base covers over 250 miles, spans four counties, employs 53,700 troops and has 14,000 civilians working on post. The base is home to the 82nd Airborne Division, the XVII Airborne Corps and the U.S. Army Special Operations Command headquarters. Almost 10% of all army forces are assigned to Fort Bragg.
A significant number of the talented men and women who serve at Fort Bragg choose to live in Moore County because of the high quality of life we offer. In fact, 12% of our population in 2021 have served in the armed forces and almost 5% of our population 16 years or older are active military.

Moore County is proud to have several successful defense industry companies in our community who create innovative products and provide critical services to protect and defend our nation. Some of these include:

- K2 Solutions – provide canine, defense, & explosive solutions
- American Growler – design and produce off highway vehicles (OHV)
- Telum Protection Corp – provides exercise support, training, analysis, specialized equipment, and intelligence solutions
