A special “Community Close-Up” section about Moore County is featured in the January 2021 issue of Business North Carolina magazine.  “Game on in Moore County” talks about Moore County’s efforts to attract development, businesses, and talented people to relocate here.

The feature highlights the USGA’s September 2020 announcement of establishing a second headquarters, Golf House Pinehurst, that includes the relocation of its golf equipment Research & Test Center from New Jersey, construction of a museum and visitor center, and offices for the USGA’s Foundation and Green Section.  The USGA also named Pinehurst No. 2 as the anchor site for future U.S. Open Championships in 2024, 2029, 2035, 2041 and 2047.

Golf Pride, the world’s largest manufacturer of golf grips, shares why they call Moore County home.  They chose Pinehurst as the base for their headquarters and Global Innovation Campus and believe the area is the perfect location for other golf-related businesses.  The presence of companies like Golf Pride and the USGA only solidifies Moore County’s distinction as the Home of American Golf.

The article also describes Moore County Partners in Progress’ (PIP) initiative to establish an entrepreneurship hub for creating new business start-ups by providing affordable space and support resources.  After completing a feasibility study, PIP is evaluating the Town of Carthage as a potential site for the hub because of its central location in the county and the availability of the historic “Buggy” building.

Lastly, the “Community Close-Up” highlights collaborative efforts to establish the new Health & Life Sciences Campus at Morganton Park in Southern Pines, which will expand upon Moore County’s substantial existing health care footprint.  The campus has available sites to attract life-sciences companies such as small pharma, medical equipment, and clinical trials.

Katherine Liles, Carthage’s Planning Director, sums up Moore County’s versatility nicely: “I think Moore County is well-situated culturally and talent-wise to do not only golf and golf-related business but also agriculture, medical-related jobs and work with our military. And, growth in light manufacturing.”  Partners in Progress is working diligently to take advantage of these opportunities.
